Spotify allows you to search and tune into a collection of millions of songs online. This version for iOS 5.0+ devices looks gorgeous and makes it easy to start enjoying Spotify on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. If can't run iOS 5.0 on your device, then check out the iOS 4.0+ version of Spotify.
Spotify Mobile is free, but you can only use it if you have a Premium Spotify account. There is currently a 48-hour trial available if you sign up, which you can do via Facebook. Annoyingly, there is no 'Sign up now' option when you first launch Spotify, so you'll need to do this yourself in your browser if you're not already a member.
Provided you're a premium member you can listen to anything from Spotify's huge and expanding library. You can sync with playlists you have on your desktop, create new ones, or just listen to albums, or artist selections. Unfortunately, it's not possible to browse music by genre or category, which would've been a nice addition for people who don't always know what they're looking for.
The Spotify Mobile interface is really slick and intuitive. Searching is easy, while results are easy to browse and well organized. Any track you listen to can easily be added to playlists, which themselves are easy to edit, reorder and shuffle. Optimized for the retina display, the album art looks especially incredible on a latest generation iPad.
There is support for offline listening too, although obviously you can't use saved music in any other app. Another limiting factor is when streaming using your 3G connection, Spotify Mobile will eat away your battery!
Despite these small issues, the Spotify Mobile app is quite an achievement, and if you have an account and an iOS device, downloading it is a no brainer! If you don't have a Spotify premium account, this might be the app that changes your mind.
Listen to almost anything you like, whenever you feel like it. Spotify Mobile is a powerful and really intuitive music application for your iPhone.
